Do you spend a lot of time sitting behind a desk? Remember to take frequent breaks and move. How Too Much Sitting Can Hurt Your Back

Although sitting can take a load off your feet, the act is not as kind to your back. Whether you’re driving to work, typing at your computer, playing video games or watching TV, sitting around for extended periods can strain your back, resulting in discomfort or pain.

Back Pain and More

And that’s not the only issue that can crop up. We here at Sandstone Chiropractic know excessive sitting can contribute to:

·       Tightness in the hip flexors, the muscles responsible for easy movement of the hip joint

·       Development of malfunctioning spinal joints, which plague your spine with needless wear and tear

·       High blood pressure

·       Heart disease

·       Diabetes

·       Cancer

·       Other chronic conditions

What’s the Solution?

The antidote for too much sitting is actually as obvious as it may seem – get up and get moving! Staying active can not only dramatically decrease low back pain, but it can stave off other conditions and issues that stem from being overly sedentary.

Walking is an easy, low-impact activity you can weave into your daily schedule. Running, weight workouts and yoga are other ways you can keep moving to help reduce back pain.

A trip to our Magnolia or Montgomery clinic can help ensure your spine and aligned and ready for action. Give us a call today!
